A "Media Face" in The Women's March on Washington: Savannah Overton
In what began as a simple idea on Facebook to march in protest to Trumps inauguration, The Women's March on Washington went well above and beyond any expectations, developing into the largest protest march in U.S. history and garnering sister marches around the world. And tons of media was there to document. Savannah just happened to be one of the 500,000 in attendance in Washington D.C. when she was first captured by Reuters and posted in The Daily Mail... then it began to grow and grow! Soon it was the the cover photo for the Business Insider, Then CBS News picked it up and the New Yorker, The New York Times, the AOL and Yahoo home pages and on and on. By the end of the evening it was even pitched in the congratulatory message to the Women's March on Washington Movement by Bernie Sanders and by the next morning it shared the headlines with Trump's swearing in on the front page of The Jerusalem Post.
An estimated 670 gatherings took place around the world in solidarity with the Washington event, estimating a global turnout of more than 3.6 million participants, although those numbers could not be independently verified.
