ADVERTISING; 3 Agencies Big Winners Of CEBA Awards

Burrell Advertising, Young & Rubicam and Chiat/Day were the big agency winners last night at the seventh annual Ceba Awards, given for excellence in communications to black audiences. Each agency got three awards, but only Chicago-based Burrell specializes in ethnic advertising.

However, there were two such agencies among the double winners: the Uniworld Group and Mingo- Jones, both of New York. The third agency was CRU, formerly Gotham Advertising, the in-house agency of CBS Records Group.

The event, held in the Grand Ballroom of the New York Hilton, was sponsored by the World Institute of Black Communications, which was founded by the National Black Network, an advertising representative for the country's black radio stations.

All three Chiat/Day winners were ads for Nike, the sports shoe company, while two of Y.& R.'s were for the United Negro College Fund and the third for Dr Pepper. Burrell rode to victory with Coca-Cola, McDonald's and L'eggs hosiery.
